Autoblog: Subaru promises BRZ, Impreza STI concepts plus rally return at Tokyo Auto Salon
Unlike most cities, Japan's capital city plays host to two major automotive exhibitions: the Tokyo Motor Show and the Tokyo Auto Salon. While these terms may be interchangeable when it comes to European expos, in Tokyo, they connote two different shows altogether. The first is the Motor Show, where new concepts and production models are unveiled by the world's automakers. The Auto Salon is more of a tuner expo along the lines of the SEMA show in Las Vegas. So after Subaru made its long-anticipated splash at the Tokyo Motor Show with its new BRZ, now it's heading to the Salon with some modified versions.

Car and Driver: 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek
For years, Europeans have ridiculed American buyers for their SUV addiction, but small-SUV sales are booming on the Continent right now. The new XV Crosstrek was conceived as a way for Subaru to capitalize on the trend, its tidy dimensions making it ideal for tight European roads. When U.S. dealers saw the XV, though, they loved it and convinced Subaru brass that it would be a hit with young urban families stateside. Here, it will be known as the XV Crosstrek.

Straight.com: Subaru Impreza puts all wheels into action
Do cars need all-wheel drive? Depends on who you talk to. On the downside, it adds to the vehicle sticker price, decreases fuel economy, and increases maintenance and repair costs. You could also argue that nine times out of 10, you just don’t need to have all four wheels churning away, delivering traction, and that for the vast majority of drivers, two-wheel drive does the job nicely, especially if it’s front-wheel drive.
Autoguide: How the Scion FR-S Almost Never Happened and Why Subaru Thought it Was a Bad Idea
The Scion FR-S might be the most exciting sports car in years and it might also be the most important project Toyota has ever launched, helping change perceptions about an automaker that has become known for building appliances. Edmunds Inside Line: 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek First Drive
If you were to define an ideal Subaru, a compact crossover would be high up the list. Practical, capable and built to maximize the benefits of four-wheel drive, it's also compact enough to rekindle memories of Subaru's notable rally racing successes.Subaru used to call such a model the Impreza Outback. Now that idea has been reincarnated as the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek but it's been designed to seduce a different audience. Subaru reckons it's built for "urban adventure" and that it's more likely to be found curb-hopping in Manhattan than powersliding around on a dirt road. It's self-consciously trendy, which is presumably why Subaru chose to launch it in a loud shade of orange and add the "Crosstrek" moniker for the U.S.
Edmunds Inside Line: 2013 Scion FR-S: 10 Things You Don't Know
By now you know plenty about the 2013 Scion FR-S. You know it uses a 2.0-liter normally aspirated flat-4 cranking out 200 horsepower. You know it's got a six-speed manual transmission and you know it weighs about 2,800 pounds. What you don't know is that we spent a day last week driving the car on a track in Japan and talking shop with its chief engineer, Tetsuya Tada. Below are the 10 most important facts we learned about this most engaging sports car.
Just Auto: ANALYSIS: Tsunami, floods and dual sourcing: whatever happened to risk management?
Two recent natural events, the Japanese tsunami in March 2011 and more recently the autumn floods in Thailand were both human and economic tragedies and showed that man, whatever his illusions, is still not master of the planet. At a more practical industrial level, should they also be seen as a wake-up call to global industry to reassess its supply-chains, sourcing philosophy, dual sourcing and strategic risk management?

Autoweek: 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek: Drive Review
To put it simply, the 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek is an Impreza five-door with a raised suspension, specific front and rear fascias, body-side cladding and exclusive wheels. However, the company line is that the XV is not an Impreza but its own model targeting a new group of customers: urbanites.
Motor Trend: First Drive: 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek
Having just returned from the press launch of the new 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek, I can tell you two things with certainty. The first is that if you haven't seen the Tuscan countryside in late fall, you should put it on your bucket list. The weather is crisp, but the impossibly perfect winding roads zip past wineries and farmland, lined with fire orange leaves, lush greenery, and people just as colorful from a cultural standpoint. The second is that the Subaru XV, despite being 'just a lifted Impreza,' is a very cool car.

Motor Trend: Next-Gen Subaru WRX to Get Turbo 2.0-Liter Targeting 270 hp
A spokesperson at Subaru of America just confirmed that the next generation Subaru WRX will receive a turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four engine with a targeted output of 270 horsepower. This engine will be a turbocharged variant of the FA20 engine found in the recently-released 2013 Subaru BRZ we just drove in Japan. Although half a liter smaller in displacement than the current WRX’s 2.5-liter 265-horsepower engine, it looks as though the all new FA20 will make slightly more power. The FA20 turbo is a return to the car’s roots, of sorts; when the WRX made its American debut in 2001, it had a 2.0-liter turbo flat-four under the hood.

Autoweek: 2013 Subaru BRZ: Drive Review
The Subaru BRZ represents nothing less than the return of inexpensive, fun, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports cars. Sure, there have always been fun, front-engined, rear-drive sports cars, but they weren't cheap. Now, for an anticipated sticker price of less than $25,000, you can get a 200-hp flat four stuffed low and back on the front end of a smooth coupe body. You can have a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, too, the latter with paddle-shifted manual mode. And you get a Torsen limited-slip rear differential that keeps both back tires spinning as long as you want them to spin.
Car and Driver: 2013 Subaru BRZ
Some things just don’t make sense. Why is the food at Outback Steakhouse mostly Cajun-style? Why can’t Jennifer Aniston find true love? And why would Subaru and Toyota, two companies whose fortunes are built on mainstream sedan sales, collaborate on a rear-drive sports car? The latter question is a bit easier to answer from the Subaru BRZ perspective. For one, Subaru has a currently breathing reputation for building sporty cars: They may sell in limited volumes, but the WRX and STI are nevertheless Subarus.
Automobile: First Drive: 2013 Subaru BRZ
A half century or so ago, the car market was blossoming with sports cars. These were generally simple machines that were often unreliable and impractical -- and very often not particularly fast. They came with funny little names like MG and Triumph and Sunbeam and Alfa Romeo and Datsun, and their owners weren’t much concerned with zero to sixty. Or top speed. Or peak lateral acceleration. No, the cars had a simple task: to put a smile on your face.

Motor Trend: 2011 SEMA: No BRZ, But Here’s Four Other Cool Subarus
Subaru has been much more secretive than Scion about its forthcoming rear-wheel drive sports car. While Scion has shown numerous iterations of the FR-S, all Subaru has shown of its new BRZ are pictures, and a see-through concept. Even our first drive revealed nothing, as our BRZ tester was covered in camouflage. This year’s SEMA show was no different. While Scion brought its FR-S concept to the aftermarket show, Subaru declined to bring its cool new BRZ along. Instead, this is what we’ve got.

Last year's winner lasted 75 hours and 17 minutes, and bragging rights for the record of 81 hours 32 minutes go to Singaporean George Lee in 2008.

Consumer Reports: First look video: 2012 Subaru Impreza
Subaru has never been afraid to “zig” when the competition “zags.” Many things about Subaru are, well, different. With their “boxer” horizontally-opposed engines, standard all-wheel drive, and lineup of station wagons, they don’t have a history of just copying the competition. This is why it was not such a shock when Subaru first announced their new and improved Impreza with a smaller and less powerful engine, while most manufacturers boast about having more power with each redesign.

It is finally revealed that the daughter is in fact of driving age, and we had been seeing her through her father’s eyes – as a little girl about whom he cares deeply as she heads out for her first solo drive. He hands over the keys, she says “Thanks, dad,” and his voiceover closes out the spot with, “We knew this day was coming. That’s why we bought a Subaru” as the word “Love” appears on screen.

Motor Trend: Verdict: 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Limited
When I wrote the 2.5GT's Long-Term Arrival story well over a year ago, I wondered if Motor Trend's staff would deem it "a WRX for grown-ups" by the time its tenure was up. You see, the midsize Legacy 2.5GT borrows the compact WRX's turbocharged 2.5-liter, 265-hp flat-four engine and so-called Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system, but packages them in a bigger body designed more for the mature family man than the gung-ho rally fan. Some 26,740 miles later, we have answers: yes and no.

But not all companies are doing as good of a job as Subaru, says Gaywheels.com, an established website that covers automotive developments as they relate to gays and lesbians. Some are clearly more "gay friendly" than others.

Car (UK): Subaru BRZ (2012) – the RWD coupe scoop
This is Subaru’s BRZ coupe, the new rear-wheel drive sports car to partner Toyota’s FT-86. Our spy photographers caught the new BRZ on the road in Germany this week. Although still shrouded in psychedelic disguise, you can begin to see more of Subaru’s new 2012 sports car. It’s a compact two-seater with a fastback raked rear, an integrated back spoiler, twin bazooka exhuasts and an elegant cab-backwards stance all visible in these new spy photos.

Both the Subaru and Toyota versions of the FT-86 will be making their world debut in December at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show, but Toyota will be utilizing their ingenious marketing strategies to unveil a race version of the FT-86. The car will make its debut at the German VLN series on the Nürburgring race track, similar to how they revealed the Lexus LF-A race car. It’s becoming sort of like a tradition of sorts for Toyota and Lexus to race with prototypes.
Automobile: Subaru’s BRZ Prototype Coupe Spied Yet Again
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the Toyobaru coupe to come to fruition, and these latest spy shots don’t exactly alleviate our anticipation. While Subaru continues to show a BRZ powertrain layout model at auto shows around the globe, our friends at Motor Trend caught an actual prototype running in the real world. At this stage, there’s little – if anything – shown here that should come as a surprise. The BRZ’s form echoes that of its Toyota siblings – the FT-86 and Scion FR-S, respectively – although the Lexus LFA influence in the front fascia is toned down in ever so slightly.

Winding Road: Driven: 2012 Subaru Impreza
The night before we were to drive it, Subaru gave us a presentation on the 2012 Impreza, detailing what made this vehicle a better machine than the generation before it, as well as giving us a chance to finally meet the vehicle in person. The 2012 model ditches the 2.5-liter engine for a new 2.0-liter boxer four, providing 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. This allows for a significant increase in fuel economy (27 city, 36 highway mpg for cars equipped with the continuously variable transmission), without sacrificing speed. In fact, the new Impreza is capable of hitting 60 miles per hour from a standstill in under 10 seconds—not amazing, but better than before.

Autoweek: 2012 Subaru Impreza, an Autoweek Flash Drive Car Review
With the fourth-generation Impreza,Subaru aims to remedy a few of the major problems faced with the previous model. The first hiccup to the Impreza's recipe involved styling because—let's be honest here--the old car didn't look all that stellar, particularly in sedan form. In fact, the sales split between the four-door sedan and the five-door hatchback was roughly 40/60. Yeah, the hatchback outsold the sedan, which is not typical in the United States.
Motor Trend: First Test: 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium and Limited
For years there have been some big "buts" justifying the purchase of a new Subaru Impreza. "Yes, I know it's ugly, but it's really fun to drive," or "No, it doesn't get great fuel economy, but that's the price you pay for all-wheel drive," were among the common refrains. With the all-new 2012 Impreza, Subaru believes it's finally eliminated the buts.
Cars.com: 2012 Subaru Impreza
The redesigned 2012 Subaru Impreza's most compelling attributes are evident before you even start the engine. Take a glance and you'll see more mature styling in both the sedan and four-door hatchback. Get inside and you'll find excellent sightlines, roominess and improved quality. Look at the specifications and you'll see impressive mileage for a car in the compact class — especially for one with Subaru's signature standard all-wheel drive: 27/36 mpg city/highway. If you like what you see so far, driving the Impreza probably won't deter you, but it won't close the deal, either.

The Car Connection: 2012 Subaru Impreza - Review
With the all-new 2012 Impreza, Subaru has turned a laser-like focus on making its compact sedan and hatchback more competitive and providing a better fit with what buyers really want. The small Japanese maker has thus produced an Impreza with less polarizing styling and considerably better fuel economy, competitively priced, and offering a feature no other compact offers: standard all-wheel drive on every model.
C|net: The 2012 Subaru Impreza: Your first real car (first drive)
With the Outback growing up to become more of a crossover and less of a wagon, the 2012 Subaru Impreza is angling to fill its bigger sibling's shoes with a roomier and more fuel-efficient small vehicle to compete in the growing compact car segment. Bigger than the subcompacts millennials may have bought during or just out of school, and more refined than their parents' hand-me-downs, Subaru wants the Impreza to be a car buyers' first real car.
Autoblog: 2012 Subaru Impreza
It was a welcome change of pace to sit through a new car product presentation and not have to listen to company pitchmen repeat the adjective "best-in-class" over and over again. The simple truth is that the all-new 2012 Subaru Impreza doesn't really have best-in-class anything – power, fuel economy, cruising range, cargo capacity or even warranty. The major thing that sets the new Impreza apart from its competition is standard all-wheel drive – a Subaru staple (at least, until the rear-wheel-drive BRZ shows up).

Jalopnik: The Subaru BRZ is still invisible
You can tell how far a concept car is from production by the ratio of glass to its total surface area. Concept cars tend to be airy bubbles of glass which, when faced with the harsh reality of crash standards and production costs, quickly gain the gun slits that modern cars have for windows. By that metric, Subaru’s BRZ—the artist formerly known as the Subieyota—is quite a way from becoming what it hints to one day become: a new SVX.

So we research cars – we actually go find out what it really does. We look at magazines such as Road and Track and Car and Driver, and we see what their test results are.

Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., located in Lafayette, Indiana, is the automaker's pride and joy when it comes to its green North American production plants. And I got the full inside tour.

Edmunds Inside Line: Subaru XV Teased Ahead of 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show
Fuji Heavy Industries, the Japanese parent of Subaru, has released a teaser sketch of the XV ahead of its world debut next month at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. The Subaru XV, unveiled in concept form earlier this year at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, "defines a new generation of Subaru crossover vehicles," the automaker said.
Auto Express 9UK): Subaru Forester Diesel
The Forester is greener than ever. Subaru has fitted a more efficient – yet just as powerful – diesel to its crossover. Is this enough to bring the car up to date? With an improved turbo and smaller-capacity alternator, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer unit claims improvements in economy and CO2 emissions of around seven per cent over the outgoing car. This takes them to 47.1mpg and 158g/km respectively.

Boston Globe: 2011 Subaru WRX STI: Obnoxious fun
If I didn't know better, the Subaru WRX STI might just be the silliest gas hog of a little car there is. It's a cocky, pheromone-swilling show-off, with a hood scoop ready to inhale pigeons, a foot-tall rear wing, and all that booming, ear-splitting braaap from the four exhaust tips. This is a car that acts like a frustrated teenage boy and is priced for a well-paid man in his 30s, albeit a single and slightly nerdy guy who likes a good deal. Because for all its tackiness — and this is after Subaru canceled the gold pimp wheels for 2011— the man who buys a WRX STI does know better. He's getting a street-legal race car, and all the gut-wrenching performance of a Porsche 911 for half the price.

To most people, the Subaru Impreza is a practical compact sedan with enhanced all-weather capability. But enthusiasts have long known its darker side. The WRX alludes to the WRC rally car, and for several years now, Subaru has offered Americans the STI with even more power. Sophistication, however, isn’t the STI’s thing. It’s the ultimate auto-industry tease: once again, we have pictures of the long-rumored Subaru/Toyota sports coupe, but we still don’t have much information on the actual car. These spy photos from our colleagues at Motor Trend show the rear-wheel-drive sports coupe powering around the Nürburgring in Germany. Both Subaru and Toyota are building their own versions of the sports coupe, so we can’t be entirely sure which version we’re seeing here. Our sources say this is the Subaru model, but the swirled camouflage vinyl precludes us from spotting any distinguishing badges or styling cues. We can only discern a modest rear spoiler, LED taillights, and black wheels. The last Subaru/Toyota test mule we caught was likewise heavily disguised, although that car had a different set of wheels and license plates.

When racers and engineers talk about changes in suspension and wheel weights they typically use small numbers, like an ounce or two off a wheel or a percentage point in roll stiffness. The FB25 makes the same 170 hp as the EJ, but torque is up 4 lb-ft to 174. A gain of 4 lb-ft isn’t the only reason Subaru redesigned the engine. The new four is slightly more efficient—EPA ratings for our four-speed-automatic test car jump 1 mpg in each test to 21 city and 27 highway—saves weight, and paves the way for the future adoption of direct injection.

EasierCars: Subaru Impreza shines in MSN Cars handling challenge
Subaru’s All-Wheel Drive Impreza is the hatchback to be in when bad weather strikes, according to handling tests carried out recently by MSN Cars. The popular automotive website took four rival hatchbacks to the Wet Grip facility at Rockingham Raceway, Northamptonshire, to establish which was the safest to own and drive on slippery and hazardous roads. The Impreza’s rivals in this slippery skid-pan shoot-out were the BMW 1 Series, Honda Civic and Volkswagen Golf. All four were priced under £18,000, but they offered the full range of drivetrain layouts: the BMW was rear-wheel drive, the Honda and Golf were driven by the front wheels, and the Impreza, as with all production Subaru’s, boasted All-Wheel Drive.

Fenceviewer: On The Road Review: Subaru Forester
Heading to work on a bright sunny winter day, I start wondering why there is so little traffic on the road. There are a lot fewer cars waiting at each intersection and no long lines of cars trundling along behind rolling roadblocks. Ah hah, the light bulb goes off — school is out for vacation. No half-empty yellow buses stopping at what seems like every driveway (can’t kids walk to each other’s driveway and kind of ‘wait-pool’?), no kids driving dad’s car to school, no moms shuttling other kids into school because they don’t want to ride the bus, and no teaching staffs commuting. There are no blinking school zone lights — when are there any kids around these anyway, let alone any kids walking? Traffic was flowing much smoother, much more efficiently. These thoughts mirror my impressions of the latest, third-generation Subaru Forester — a smoother, more efficient wagon.

Remember that 2008 ad by Citroen featuring a scowling Chairman Mao? This time, yet another carmaker in another country has done it again. In a new ad for its Trezia model, Subaru Italy has used a feminised image of Chairman Mao to sell the car, which promises “a high driving position and superior internal space worthy of a revolution”.

Yahoo! Finance: BorgWarner Supplies Latest Advancements in Variable Cam Timing Technology for Subaru's New Boxer Engines
BorgWarner supplies its latest advancements in Cam Torque Actuated (CTA) variable cam timing (VCT) technology for the new Subaru boxer engines. According to Subaru, the new four-cylinder 2.5- and 2.0-liter engines improve fuel economy 4 to 6 percent and 10 percent, respectively, compared with previous models, and meet U.S. Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV) and Euro 5 emissions standards. The 2.5-liter engine features BorgWarner's award-winning CTA technology, while the 2.0-liter engine introduces BorgWarner's CTA technology with a new mid position lock, an innovation named as a finalist in the 2011 Automotive News PACE Awards. Launched on the Forester, the boxer engines are expected to become Subaru's main engines.

JCOnline: 4 Subaru models set February sales records
The shortest sales month of the year did not deter Subaru from setting another sales record. A report released Tuesday by Subaru of America Inc. shows the company sold 21,683 vehicles last month. That represents a 20 percent increase over February 2010. "This is by far the best start to a year we've ever had," said Timothy Colbeck, senior vice president of sales for Subaru of America. "We have been working to get more units to our dealers, but every time we think they will build some inventory, they increase sales instead.

Toshio Masuda, product manager for Subaru's new boxer-engined sports coupe, the one that will share its architecture with the Toyota FT-86, didn't reveal any more about the car's chassis than you'd expect. Except one thing. The car's benchmark, its target competitor, is the Porsche Cayman.

IOL Motoring (ZA): Scooby STI is potent AND practical
If there is one thing I’ve always liked about that particular class of performance car of which the Subaru WRX STI forms part, it’s that they’re practical. Think about it, here you have a four-door sedan with enough space for the core family and it goes like the proverbial “bat outta hell”. And now Subaru has done right by its fans by putting the boot back into this iconic brute.

Autoweek: 2011 Subaru Forester 2.5X Premium, an AW Drivers Log
It's not spelled out on the option list, but this Forester comes with a lot of confidence as standard equipment. Eight inches of wind-whipped snow on the road? This Subie sneered at the slick stuff and kept right on truckin'. This company's years of experience in all-wheel-drive systems really shines when you need to punch through a few drifts and plow through the ruts to get down the road. And as long as you're strapped in and ready to steer, the car's traction and stability controls allow for plenty of sideways fun when the opportunity presents itself.

TorqueNews: Toyota FT-86 Sports Coupe To Go By Scion FT-S
The Scion FT-S' brother, the Subaru , will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show. Rumors are a fickle thing and it now seems that the Subaru will arrive in Geneva packing all-wheel drive, not the rear-wheel drive setup that was once suggested. This should help Subaru’s version differentiate itself from the Scion FT-S. If we are going to take the rumors one step further, there are some going around that suggest Subaru might be working on an STI version of, whatever it is their coupe is going to be called. Spy shots that have been taken of the car show a front-mounted intercooler and bulging hood, suggested that some sort of turbocharged boxer engine with 300 horsepower lives inside.

Autoblog: Subaru's new 2.0-liter boxer: It's better, but does it matter?
Subaru recently invited us to Budapest to get to know the 2011 European-spec Forester, which was... well, exactly what you'd expect (it was fine), but that's not the point here. What is important is the all-new "FB" engine under the hood – Subaru's third-generation boxer design – the same unit that we'll be seeing in the upcoming Impreza. Essentially, it's a sized-down version of our Forester's 2.5-liter mill, as opposed to the second-gen EJ25 engine in the current Impreza. Got it? Good. Let's get our hands dirty...

Hartford Courant: Subaru WRX STI
I still remember my first drive years ago in the original high-performance Subaru WRX STI. I wondered who would want to live with this car. Granted, it was powerful and a lot of fun, but it was also rough, noisy and abrupt. The WRX STI is the higher end model of the Impreza, which was first introduced in 1993. Where the Impreza was comfortable around town, the WRX STI was like a bucking bronco. Then I had the chance to drive it on the infield race course at Pocono. What a difference. The WRX STI came alive. It put all its power on the ground with ease through the all-wheel drive system. The jittery and, at times, punishing ride suddenly didn't matter. On the track, that stiff suspension produced great control. After a couple of energetic laps, I knew exactly why people are buying the WRX STI.

Edmunds INside LIne: 2012 Subaru Impreza May Have 2011 New York Auto Show Debut
Subaru pulled a major surprise when it rolled out its much acclaimed Impreza Concept at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show last November. Now comes word that the production 2012 Subaru Impreza may launch earlier than expected, perhaps at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The Impreza Concept, a powerfully built "four-door coupe" was clearly a signpost to how the next Impreza would shape up, but as to when that all-new Impreza would actually appear, well, Subaru predictably was pretty coy about that. Now comes news that the next Impreza will launch much sooner than expected. In fact, it will go on-sale in the U.S. market this August. Tom Doll, Subaru of America executive vice president, confirmed as much in a recent auto show interview, and that ties in with its expected release in Japan, too.

Edmunds Inside Line: 2011 Subaru Forester 2.0 First Drive
Boxer engines? You can't call them an oddity — not when a top-10 brand in the U.S. uses them — but they're not exactly mainstream, either. The closest the boxer engine has come to that was back in the '60s, when the VW Beetle was the country's super-dominant import and GM offered a larger-scale alternative to the Bug in the elegant shape of the troubled Chevrolet Corvair. But with Subaru coming off a record year, having sold 263,820 vehicles in the U.S. during 2010, the horizontally opposed engine is enjoying a modest 21st-century renaissance. Now the Japanese automaker is launching its third-generation boxer engine — the first of the company's flat-4s appeared way back in 1966. Designated FB (for "Fuji future" in parent company Fuji Heavy Industries' native tongue), this engine will eventually supersede the outgoing EJ engine, which has been around since 1989.

Motor Trend: First Drive: 2011 Subaru Forester 2.0X
t's not too often that we're invited to drive a vehicle that we'll never see on an American road. But that was the case with the just-introduced-in-Europe 2.0X, which Subaru invited a handful of U.S. journalists to sample in Budapest, Hungary. Why? Well, we can tell you it wasn't for the scenery, as the Hungarian countryside in the middle of January is about as photogenic as dust. No, it was for the 2.0X's all-new engine, which, unlike the Forester we drove, will indeed make its way to America. Codenamed FB20, this 2.0-liter flat-four heads stateside later this year in the 2012 Impreza, of which we got a preview (Impreza Design Concept) at the 2010 Los Angeles auto show.
Autoweek: 2010 Subaru Outback 3.6R Premium, an AW Long-Term Wrap-Up
Our long-term fleet recently welcomed a new member, a burgundy-and-chrome leviathan otherwise known as the Infiniti QX56. And yet, while many on staff are already scheming for ways to utilize the gargantuan hauling capacity offered by the QX, we're more than reluctant to set our long-term Subaru Outback adrift after a year of unfaltering service. The logbook during the fourth quarter reflects the main reason for that reluctance: Despite its size, the Subie offered a great alternative to SUV-ness, with its combination of station-wagon cargo space and go-anywhere all-wheel drive.

Edmunds Inside Line: Subaru Forester S-Edition Won't Come to the U.S.
It's official: The high-performance Subaru Forester S-Edition that was introduced in thinly veiled "concept" form at last fall's Sydney auto show has been formally launched in Australia. Also official: It won't be coming to the U.S. any time soon, Subaru of America tells Inside Line, although the Chinese market can expect to see a version later this year.
The Columbian: Why won't Subaru expand at port?
Subaru of America Inc. wanted ground that was ready to be broken and built on. The Port of Portland had it.The Port of Vancouver did not. Nevertheless, the deal that landed a new 413,000-square-foot Subaru auto parts distribution facility at the port across the river should not be taken as a lost opportunity for Clark County, according to Larry Paulson, executive director of the Port of Vancouver. That’s because Vancouver’s port — already the West Coast point of entry for Subaru vehicles — is focusing its time and resources on building up its rail facilities to pump up jobs. And a strategic decision like that means that the port’s been slower to develop its Centennial Industrial Park, which would have been the logical location for the new Subaru facility.

Car and Driver: Examining Subaru’s New FB-series Flat-Four - Car News
The EJ-series flat-four has ruled the Subaru universe since it debuted in the 1989 Legacy. In today’s most desirable Subarus, a 2.5-liter EJ makes anywhere from 224 to 305 horsepower with belt-driven dual overhead cams and a turbocharger. Lowlier Subie models have a SOHC EJ of identical displacement that makes 170 horses. Of course, those desiring more cylinders can have a 3.6-liter pancake-six making 256 horses in the top-dog Legacy and Outback, and the Tribeca is only available with the six (although we’re not sure anyone desires the Tribeca).
Motor Trend: Comparison: 2011 Subaru WRX STI vs. 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Special Edition
Having such a precise, racing-derived suspension setup kills any inkling of a civilized ride, meaning buying an Evo as a daily driver -- or a road tripper -- is a ridiculous proposition. (After an hour into a trip to Las Vegas, for example, your butt and back will feel as though they were sponsored by Cialis.) Subaru forgoes a bit of cornering responsiveness for a ride that doesn't jounce at every pavement imperfection. It is likely Subaru's way to please a wider audience of American buyers who may use the STI as a commuter.

Automobile: Sneak Preview: 2012 Subaru Impreza
Subaru will target fuel-economy gains, rather than power improvements, with an all-new engine for the next Impreza. To that end, the displacement falls from 2.5 liters to 2.0 liters with power dropping as well. The new flat four-cylinder makes 148 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque, compared with 170 hp and 170 lb-ft in the outgoing car. The four-speed automatic will be replaced with a more efficient continuously variable transmission. A manual, likely with five gears, will also be available. All-wheel drive will continue to be standard equipment.
Motor Authority: 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX: Another Take
All of which is to say that Subaru continues to kill it with the WRX. You can’t argue with the math, or that for the money there’s very little else on the market that’s even close. Yes, GTI fans will counter that their car is more refined, and if you compare interiors they’d be dead right.

It seems like its been ages since Toyota debuted its FT-86 concept at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. Car Connection: Subaru Prefers Puppy Bowl To Super Bowl & Offers Free Pet Treats On Facebook
There's a lot of chatter in marketing circles about the auto industry's return to Super Bowl advertising. Because the spots are so expensive -- around $3 million per 30-second ad -- this year's demand for airtime is seen as an indicator of strength in the automotive sector. But one of 2010's most successful car companies has turned its back on the Big Game, having chosen to sponsor Animal Planet's annual "Puppy Bowl" instead -- and to prove its love of pets, Subaru is even giving away free doggie treats via Facebook.

Jalopnik: Buy the "Cheap and Ugly" Subaru 360
When it came time to introduce the Subaru 360 to the American public in 1968, this set of commercials calling the car cheap and ugly was released. Neither the advertising campaign nor the Subaru 360 was particularly well received. The Subaru 360 was the first mass produced vehicle made by the Fuji Heavy Industries' Subaru division in Japan. The 360 was named for the 356cc of displacement from its two cylinder two stroke engine produced. You read that right, two-stroke, like a chainsaw. The 360 was introduced in Japan for the 1958 model year. It was well received in Japan and after 10 years of production, Subaru decided to try and carve out a piece of the American compact car market.

Auto123 (CA): 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX Limited 4-door Review
Some things are just meant for each other like wine and cheese, beer and friends, Brad and Angelina and turbochargers and AWD. Yes, there are few feelings in this world as satisfying as tackling any road surface and being confident in your car's abilities at coping with what is thrown at it. You may recall that I've mentioned on a few occasions my experience one cold January morning in 2006. I had opened the garage door from my apartment building to find 41 cm of fresh snow lying before me, taunting me, having paralysed the city and kept roads deserted. I could do nothing more than smile. I had seen the light!

Marketwatch: 2011 Subaru WRX STI 5-Door If you’ve got the money, Suby’s got the fun
Subaru continues to crank out some awesome performance cars, and the STI 5-door is one of them. It has lots of performance, but with a ride that makes it a little easier to live with as a daily commuter car. For 2011 the front and rear track are widened by about 1.5 inches, along with a retuned suspension with higher-rate springs, thicker stabilizer bars and new bushings. Not to mention revised front styling or what Subaru calls “a wide and low” look. (Hurry on down to wide-track town”... Does anyone remember that ad campaign?”) At any rate, all this improves the handling of the car to make back-road carving very satisfying. Yet out on the highway and over all but the largest bumps, the test car seemed to me to be a bit softer compared to some of the high-performance Subarus that would rattle your teeth.

Compared to some of the other marques in the industry, Subaru hasn’t been selling cars for long in the United States. But it looks like their stock is on the rise as they’ve just managed to achieve a record year. 2010 was a year for rebuilding sales for much of the U.S. auto market, and Subaru managed to set a record year by selling 263,820 vehicles, a 21.8-percent increase over 2009.
