Subaru is overhauling its performance car lineup. We’ve already seen the next-gen BRZ. Next up is its more hirsute, all-wheel-drive older brother, the WRX and WRX STI. Subaru Australia (as spotted by Motor1) addressed the upcoming STI and WRX while celebrating the delivery of the 10,000th WRX STI in the country, saying that it is “certain to push the performance and technological boundaries still further.” Read More →

The comedian, actor, writer and producer was on Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, to promote the latest animation she’s worked on, Soul. On the occasion, she delivered a very interesting bit about herself, namely how she’d never owned a car until this year and how her first choice was what you could (and she does) call a “Karen car.” Or maybe it’s spelled a “Car-en”? Easily the weakest point of the first-generation Subaru BRZ (Toyota 86) was its engine. Its 2.0-liter flat-four wasn’t just prone to early failure; it was also gutless, which many hoped Subaru would address with a higher-performing turbo model. They were let down when the BRZ tS was announced sans more power and partially disappointed again when the 2022 BRZ was revealed, with more displacement and a smidgen more power, but still not as much as… Read More →

The Subaru Crosstrek is a sensible, high-riding Impreza that can be moderately enjoyable to live with, so long as you opt for the six-speed manual and not the CVT model. What it isn’t — at least not normally, anyway — is a rally car. However, the Crosstrek does in fact have a bit of a sporting pedigree, as it turns out. Back in 2016, Vermont SportsCar built a Crosstrek rally car for Subaru Rally Team… Read More →

The current Subaru WRX and WRX STI have been with us for a good long while now—seven model years, to be exact. Over the course of this time, we’ve seen a number of special editions, including the all-conquering S209 (the formerly JDM-only special). But the base cars themselves have been given only incremental improvements—not to mention a small facelift for 2018. For 2021, the WRX and WRX STI live on for what should amount to… Read More →

The Subaru Levorg has been named Japan Car of the Year 2020-2021 by a panel of 60 jurors. Surprised? Don’t be, because the Japanese know a good car when they see one. The problem is, you may not have seen one. Despite being on sale in the UK since 2015, the Subaru Levorg remains a rare sight in the UK, with buyers failing to embrace the all-wheel-drive estate car. Around 500 units have been sold… Read More →
