Rally Co-Driving Behind the Scenes, Part 9: Oops

While co-driving is incredibly fun, it is also incredibly elaborate and difficult. As I’ve explained over the course of this series the co-driver in many ways is the one running the show, setting the pace of the driver and the pace of the event itself. It takes a ton of hard work, concentration, and (especially) at the higher levels a ton of skill. So what does it mean if you, a new, nervous co-driver trying… Read More →

2014 Subaru Forester Test Drive

The 2014 Forester may be more mainstream than previous models, but don’t worry, it’s still a Subaru. And that’s a good thing, because Subaru has always done things a little differently, and it gives them a charm and a unique driving experience that makes them special. When the Forester first came out, it was the anti-SUV, a small, maneuverable and capable off-roader when most of the competition felt and looked more like converted small trucks. Read More →

Subaru Rally Team Canada: strategic second-place finish

Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) today announced its second-place finish in the third event of the Canadian Rally Championship season, Rallye Defi, held September 6-7, in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec. For Subaru Rally Team Canada driver Pat Richard and co-driver Rob Fagg, the best strategy was to push without pushing too hard in order to maintain a lead towards the driver’s championship and a tied position towards the manufacturer’s championship. After tackling a small centre differential issue early… Read More →

Frankfurt 2013: Subaru Viziv Concept Shows Up

Meant to showcase a new direction for the Subaru crossover cars, the Subaru Viziv Concept made its debut at Geneva, earlier this year. Today, we’re looking at it once again, on European land. The most important thing to remember about this car is that it’s going to be present, in one way or another, in all upcoming Crossovers from the Japanese automaker. You’ll immediately notice the front end that has larger than usual air intakes… Read More →

Subaru’s Record-Breaking Forester Sales Are Making Toyota Happy

To say that Fuji Heavy Industries‘  Subaru is having a good year is like saying Mike Tyson is a good boxer — it just doesn’t do it justice. In fact, thanks to its Impreza and Forester, Subaru has seen record-breaking sales. And the streak is likely to continue — which, in a surprising twist, is also great news for Toyota Read More →

Taylor carries Bourne legacy

Taylor Bourne yesterday buckled up for the ride of his life; racing a Subaru Impreza WRX in a rally honouring his late father, legend Possum Bourne. The 18-year-old teamed up with his step-dad, Rodney MP Mark Mitchell, in the 10th Anniversary Possum Bourne Memorial Rally in and around Possum’s home town of Pukekohe. Possum Bourne died aged just 47 after a non-competition crash on Waiorau Snow Farm Road, near Cardrona, in April 2003. Taylor was… Read More →

Subaru’s Key To Success? Quirkiness and Good Prices

If you really think about it, Subaru is quite different from its main Japanese automaker rivals. Honda and Toyota each have huge model lineups that, while not the most exciting, are meant to appeal to as large of a buying audience as possible. That’s how you get bland, yet solid, strong-selling models like the Corolla. Subaru does things a bit differently, and it’s got the sales numbers to prove it. The original sales goal outlined… Read More →

Road Trip: 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Limited Camping Trip

My 10-month-old daughter has eyes of the most deep and piercing blue, same as her mother, and she turns them up at me with a questioning look after I whack her on the head. “Gah?” she queries – a catch-all babyism ranging in meaning from “Hello!” to, as here, “What the heck, Dad?” “Sorry kid,” I say, “Mosquitoes.” Then I head over to belabour my wife about her legs where the little buggers are lined… Read More →
