The new 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is fun. That’s not a characteristic of most small crossover SUVs, and it’s even less so for most hybrids. Yet, hopping over an undulating camp road in the shadow of Mt. Adams in Washington, kicking up dust clouds into towering pines, then whipping the newest Subaru through corners with the traction control light flashing off as if it were a warning against fun, I smiled. Then I did it… Read More →

I lived with a 2025 Subaru Crosstrek for a week earlier this year, and came away from the experience with a great admiration for the car. I liked its $30,000 price, I liked the capability provided by its standard all-wheel-drive system, I liked its spacious interior, and I liked the fact that unlike most of its competitors, it felt like a family member rather than another appliance. My biggest complaints were the loud and relatively… Read More →

Hybrid powertrains seem like a no-brainer for Subaru. When the automaker surveyed its buyers on causes they’re most passionate about, 34 percent said wildlife and nature preservation, and 23 percent expressed interest in environmentalism. Given the brand’s nature-loving clientele, it’s surprising the company hasn’t embraced hybrids sooner—especially because Subarus have typically lagged behind the competition in fuel economy, in part due to their standard all-wheel drive. But after a couple of false starts in the… Read More →

At last weekend’s Bernina Gran Turismo, the car was raced up the hill by Victoria Dold – who shares more with the rally rocket than just her birth year. Among the 50 thundering and flame-spitting race cars at last weekend’s Bernina Gran Turismo, there was one car that wasn’t as loud and spectacular as the others at first glance –… Read More →

Subaru has a strong history with turbines. Okay, so they didn’t make turbines directly, but its parent company, Subaru Corporation (formerly Fuji Heavy Industries), manufactures aviation vehicles both on its own and under license. Present-day Subaru Corporation is also a development and manufacturing partner to both Boeing and Lockheed Martin. But what does aviation have to do with today’s article? Well, that’s because our friends from CarBuzz have recently discovered that Subaru has a patent… Read More →

An electric motor doesn’t solve all of the bland Subaru Forester’s problems, but it does make the model more powerful (by 14 ponies) and efficient (by several miles per gallon) and thus a stronger contender in the highly contested compact-crossover arena. It’s quieter than the nonhybrid, too, thanks in part to more sound deadening, and it doesn’t lose any cargo capacity to powertrain packaging. Read More →

Subaru plans to “rekindle old passions” with the launch of a new sports model that will lead an offensive of seven new electric cars planned for the European market by the end of 2028. The Japanese manufacturer, which gained the status of a legend thanks to its rally performances in the late 1990s and early 2000s, now wants to transfer that sporting dynamism to the electric era and thus revive enthusiasm for the brand. Fans… Read More →
