Six-time US rally champion Travis Pastrana has confirmed he’ll be taking a step back from the American Rally Association National championship this season. Pastrana, the 2017 and ’21 ARA champion with Subaru Motorsports USA, endured a difficult title defense in 2022 as he broke his pelvis filming for the latest Gymkhana video. That forced him to miss the opening round, Sno*Drift Rally, and restricted his pace on further rounds too as he recovered from his… Read More →

CVTs often get a bad rap for being unengaging, unreliable, and just all-around dull transmissions that suck the life out of any engine they’re mated up to. The new Subaru WRX in particular has received a lot of flak for this, especially because its top trim is only available with such a transmission, but is it really that bad? Engineering Explained’s Jason Fenske takes a look at that CVT in his latest video to find… Read More →

The 2023 Subaru Forester is, as Subaru tends to do with all its cars, designed for the subset of folks who like to head into the great outdoors more than others. Of course, that’s the marketing. What Subaru owners do and what their cars are designed for won’t line up in every case, but at least the Forester makes some light trail-running possible. Standard all-wheel drive, class-leading ground clearance, ample cargo capacity, sturdy roof rails… Read More →

Gymkhana 2022″ was a worthy addition to the popular gymkhana viral video series started by Ken Block, with plenty of insane stunts performed by Travis Pastrana in his 1983 Subaru GL wagon called the Family Huckster. But nearly every stunt in the video almost didn’t happen. Subaru of America’s “Launch Control” YouTube show is doing a three-part behind-the-scenes look called “Road to Gymkhana 2022” showing just how much of a scramble it was to overcome… Read More →

High demand coupled with supply-chain issues hit Subaru of America particularly hard the past couple of years and interrupted a long string of record sales. In an ideal world where none of that happens, Subaru’s U.S. sales could someday be in the neighborhood of an astounding 40% higher, says Tom Doll, president and CEO. Read More →

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will make its stateside debut at the Chicago Auto Show next month, bringing an end to months of suspense regarding the rugged little crossover’s updated U.S. specifications. OK, so maybe it’s not quite that dramatic, but the little lifted hatchback has quickly become Subaru’s U.S. best-seller — more than 155,000 Crosstreks rolled out last year, slightly ahead of Outback. And Crosstrek gives the Forester and Outback serious competition for utility volume.… Read More →

There aren’t many rally-inspired cars more iconic than Subaru’s widebody Impreza STI 22B coupe. Subaru produced only 400 examples of the limited-run model, making it forever desirable yet unobtanium to ordinary car enthusiasts, even almost three decades later. Of course, that scarcity meant it was up to companies like British-born Prodrive to build rather impressive clones like the P25. But with a price tag of $564,098, it’s still pretty unaffordable for the masses who don’t… Read More →
