Travis Pastrana is aware he has no realistic shot at defending his American Rally Association presented by DirtFish National championship title. Pastrana and co-driver Rhiannon Gelsomino were leading the recent Ojibwe Forests Rally going into the final day by five seconds over their main competition, Ken Block. On a hard push to hold off Block who had closed to one second behind, Pastrana pushed too hard through a difficult section and hit a tree, causing… Read More →

Don’t you just love it when a carmaker releases a teaser advert for a soon-to-be-unveiled model and they try to hide what’s coming? Subaru did that today when it announced online that it would be launching a “new SUV” on September 15, and proceeded to show a short video with flash images of what looked like an SUV. Check out the images below. Read More →

From a distance, I have been keeping my eye on all things DirtFish for quite some time now. On a few occasions, I’ve had the opportunity to film some social media content with the team in the UK and have kept an extra close eye on posts about my cousin Max McRae’s progress. My DirtFish experience, however, was elevated when I was invited out to Washington to take part in the latest All-Women program. Prior… Read More →

The 2022 Subaru WRX is a fun compact sports car, but Consumer Reports indicates it’s not perfect. It has issues with noise and the stiffness of its ride, and problems like this combine to take away from the experience of the AWD sports car. The two turns of the Height o’ Land stage on the Ojibwe Forests Rally are probably the most iconic stretch of stage road in the US. You’d think it’s out of a video game how perfectly the road weaves through Shuckhart Lake in Minnesota, but it’s real, and it’s beautiful. In preparation for Ojibwe this writer was showing the spot off to a few people, and was met with some concern over the safety of… Read More →

Few compact cars have the same World Rally Championship pedigree as the Subaru WRX. The first- to fourth-generation models were Impreza-based rallying machines with turbo Boxer engines, all-wheel-drive, and stiff suspension. Subaru made the WRX a standalone brand in 2015, and the second-gen 2022 WRX is the latest iteration of the brand’s iconic World Rally eXperimental vehicle. Sure, the new WRX is not easy on the eyes, but its rugged countenance makes it great for executing… Read More →

Therefore, accidents in rallying tend to be more spectacular than those on the track, mostly because you see relatively familiar scenery and a production-based race car speeding through it. Last weekend, at the Ojibwe Forests Rally in Minnesota, a rally crew ended up in a lake. The action was caught on camera, and it goes to show just the right amount of calm to deal with situations like these. The crew in question would have… Read More →

he thing is, though, the Ascent really isn’t for the general three-row crossover-buying population. It’s for Subaru’s fiercely loyal customers, and specifically the great many who outgrow their Foresters and Outbacks. Admittedly, that’s an awful lot of people these days given Subaru’s constantly increasing popularity. And with the Ascent, they’ll get loads of extra space, but with the same 8.7 inches of ground clearance, beefy roof rails, user-friendly controls and no-nonsense cabin design. The Ascent… Read More →

From fractured foglights to gravel-rashed chassis, the Alcan 5000 Rally has challenged adventure vehicles of all types and sizes. Since 1984, the Alcan 5000 Rally has tested an endless array of adventure rides. From highly customized Jeeps and tricked-out Toyotas to rad Rangers and oddball 4x4s like the author’s 1991 right-hand-drive Mitsubishi Pajero, the Alcan 5000 Rally has staked its claim as one of North America’s longest and most grueling rally competitions. H ybrid power in the World Rally Championship might feel like it’s still in its infancy, but there’s already plenty of talk about the future of power delivery beyond 2024. And Toyota’s Jari-Matti Latvala doesn’t believe electric is the one to pursue. Teams have had plenty of time to assess the hybrid units after nine rounds of this year’s WRC season, and although there were some initial technical gremlins, Latvala has been encouraged by its… Read More →
