Coronavirus: Lafayette Subaru plant shutdown looms as market demand drops amid pandemic

A day after Subaru of Indiana Inc. had to stop production temporarily halted production because an employee had contact with someone with coronavirus, the Lafayette auto plant – and Tippecanoe County’s largest private employer – will stop production for a week, starting March 23, the company announced Thursday.
The plant’s lines, making a series of Subaru models, will be closed March 23-29.
“To further ensure the health and safety of associates and to adjust volume for market demand as a result of COVID-19, Subaru of Indiana Automotive is suspending production,” Craig Koven, an SIA spokesman, said.
