Lia Block’s Subaru debut in ARA came to an early end Saturday after the 18-year-old driver retired from the race after a crash in stage 10, the first stage of the second day.
Block was tapped to fill in for Subaru’s Brandon Semenuk in the Lake Superior Performance Rally, the final ARA rally of the 2024 season; Semenuk locked up the 2024 ARA championship before the final rally of the season. This gave the duo rally and MTB champion the freedom to return to Red Bull Rampage, a freestyle cycling event that he’s won four times and missed for the first time in 2023 due to it conflicting with the LSPR.
After a stellar day one, Block and Semenuk’s usual navigator, Keaton Williams, were running in third position as they entered round 10 of the two-day rally. Unfortunately, Block lost her line while running loose and overshot a corner, sending the Subaru sailing off the course, where it landed perfectly between two trees. With the car completely wedged, Block and Williams had to climb out of the side-turned vehicle. Both the driver and navigator were okay.
