Motortrend: First Test: 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium Manual

Subarus and their owners have always been quirky. The designs are usually on the weird side, the advertising campaigns un-traditional, and the powertrains out of step with the rest of the industry. Take this 2014 Forester 2.5i Premium, for instance. Where most of its rivals feature inline four-cylinder engines, automatic transmissions, and an optional front-biased all-wheel-drive system, our tester has a flat-four, standard full-time 50-50-split all-wheel drive, and a six-speed manual transmission. In this traditional segment, you can’t get weirder than that, and the 2014 Forester is all the better for it.
