How Subaru survived and thrived after 2011 quake

Nearly 10 years ago, Tom Doll and two Subaru of America executives boarded a plane in Newark, N.J., and flew to Tokyo for Fuji Heavy Industries’ annual board of directors meeting. It would have been a routine business trip if not for the date: Sunday, March 13, 2011. Two days prior, Japan had been rocked by a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and a tsunami. Despite the obvious destruction that the natural disaster caused, it still wasn’t entirely… Read More →

Gymkhana is back, as Travis Pastrana jumps a speedboat and hits 150 mph

While Ken Block has been known for years for his wild driving in extreme Fords, when he did his first couple of Gymkhana films he was behind the wheel of Subarus. The latest Gymkhana video once again features a Subaru WRX STI, one with a bigger-displacement, 8,000-rpm 2.3-liter flat-four with 862 horsepower, but Ken Block is nowhere to be found. Instead, he has let his friendly rival Travis Pastrana take over. Pastrana’s first Gymkhana outing… Read More →

On Track, The 2022 Subaru BRZ Has More of Everything You Love

We rode shotgun for a few laps in the new, more powerful 2022 Subaru BRZ. From the passenger seat, it’s still a charmer. Whether you love Subaru’s cars or not, you have to love Subaru. Sure, they’re funkily styled and typically not the best on gas, but there’s real joy and love in Subaru’s cars, put there by the people who make them—people who are clearly enthusiasts. How else could Subaru justify coming out with… Read More →

Travis Pastrana is stepping into Ken Block’s driver seat for the next installment of the Gymkhana series, and he’s got a uniquely modified Subaru WRX STI to do the job. Subaru worked with Vermont SportsCar to build the car specifically to do exciting things on video, rather than needing to comply with any racing series’ rules. The current Subaru WRX was introduced back in 2014 and is feeling a bit long in the tooth based on its rough NVH, stiff ride, and dated interior. Ken Block Passes The Gymkhana Torch To Travis Pastrana

The tenth Gymkhana film was released a bit over a year ago to great fanfare. Ken Block has been releasing these automotive shenanigans videos since 2008’s iconic Gymkhana Practice was uploaded to YouTube. That original video has over 16 million views and it knocked me square on my ass when I first saw it. After having done pretty much everything in a car in pretty much every locale you could want to all over the world, Ken… Read More →
