Taiwan says asking chip firms to help ease auto chip shortage

Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs said on Sunday it has received requests through diplomatic channels to help ease a shortage of chips for the auto sector and that it has asked local tech firms to provide “full assistance.” Automakers around the world are shutting assembly lines because of a global shortage of semiconductors that in some cases has been exacerbated by the former Trump administration’s actions against key Chinese chip factories, according to industry officials. Analysis: Subaru staying in Europe despite 2020 “disaster”

While most brands recorded substantial falls in registrations across the country, due to the pandemic, Subaru (which is run in the UK and Europe by British independent importer International Motors) was the hardest hit of any, with a year-on-year decrease of more than 68% compared with 2019. Subaru expands Feeding America donation, advertising

Subaru of America has launched a fresh round of advertising centered around a new donation to nonprofit Feeding America amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Camden, N.J.-based unit of Japan’s Subaru, along with its two independent distributors — Subaru of New England and Subaru Distributors Corp. — said they will be donating a total of 100 million meals, or roughly $10 million, to Feeding America. Subaru acquires 0.3% stake in Toyota to develop new technologies

Subaru Corp. said Wednesday it has acquired a 0.3% stake in Toyota Motor Corp. for about ¥70 billion ($673 million) under a capital tie-up deal reached between the two companies in 2019 to boost the joint development of new technologies for autonomous and electric cars.
