REFLECTING ON SOLBERG’S LAST FULL-LENGTH WRC VICTORY

Petter Solberg isn’t short of World Rally Championship victories. In fact, he won 13 events across a career that peaked with the 2003 world title. But Rally México will always mark an important moment in his career as it’s the last full rally Solberg ever won. Rally GB 2005 will ultimately go down as Solberg’s final victory, but it was a rally marred by the tragic loss of Michael Park. Although Solberg won the event,… Read More →

Subaru Canned the New STI Because It’d Be Short-Lived

News broke late last week that the new Subaru WRX would not be getting an STI counterpart. The company announced it was exploring its options for a next-generation model, with electrification likely on the table. Making a new one now wouldn’t make sense, a Subaru spokesperson told Road & Track. “If we designed [a new STI] now, it would have a very limited shelf life,” Subaru Director of Corporate Communications Dominick Infante said. “The regulations are changing so quickly… Read More →

Next-Gen Subaru WRX STI Could Be an EV

The 2021 Subaru WRX STI could go down in history as the last STI model that was powered by an internal-combustion engine. Subaru today announced that the gas-fed WRX STI is dead, but also suggested that the next generation of the brand’s iconic model could be an EV. WHEN SOLBERG RESORTED TO MANPOWER NOT HORSEPOWER

It’s fitting that on a rally as spectacular as Rally México, one of the World Rally Championship’s most charismatic drivers – Petter Solberg – was at the center of attention as soon as the event was added to the WRC schedule. Although he was carrying the #1 on the door of his Subaru Impreza WRC, Solberg was badly in need of a result when he arrived in México for the first time after Sébastien Loeb won the opening two… Read More →

2022 Subaru WRX Review: Double Duty

The Subaru WRX has long been the car for drivers who want some turbocharged fun but still need a commuter that’s reliable in all four seasons. For 2022, the WRX enters its fifth generation with a complete redesign, but that same rally-for-the-road ethos is very much alive and well. Read More →

The 2022 Subaru WRX Has One (1) Option Package

ack in the day, we used to run “How Would You Configure” articles for new cars. As soon as a build-and-price tool was posted, we’d put together the perfect, erudite spec for the vehicle in question. But when I ventured to Subaru’s website this morning to try the shiny new configurator for the 2022 WRX, I noticed something odd: Across every trim level of the car, there’s only one (1) option package available. Why Subaru’s XT Coupe Was So Good

While we know Subaru as quite a sporty brand in 2022, that wasn’t always the case. Subaru wasn’t exactly a brand that you would associate with fast, exotic sports cars in the 1980s. This was a time when its rivals were producing cars such as the Toyota MR2 and the Nissan GT-R. But soon, that would change. Subaru wanted to take a leap into the supercar and sports car world. And because of that, they… Read More →
