Some automakers tout engine performance, cutting-edge technology or exclusivity to attract buyers. Japanese automaker Subaru has a different approach. In 2019 the company transformed 10,000 square feet of the Javits Convention Center in New York into a state-of-the-art immersive exhibit where Yellowstone’s Old Faithful geyser and Denali’s snowcapped peak were the focus — not the company’s sport utility vehicles. Wvery year the carpet seemed to get thicker. More sumptuous. And more red. There was only one thing a deeper shade of red than the floor of Monaco’s Sporting d’Hiver: Tommi Mäkinen’s face. Twenty years ago this week, the four-time World Rally Champion marched up the stairs to sit in the place he least wanted to be: the post-event press conference following his second place on the season-opening Monte Carlo Rally. Beside him sat a… Read More →

Subaru’s motorsports division is best known for its success in rally racing, but a new concept could change that. Subaru Tecnica International (STI) just unveiled an electric race concept called the STI E-RA at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon. The division’s engineers have big goals for the nearly 1,100 hp speed machine, too—they think it’s capable of conquering Nürburgring. The STI E-RA—the last three letters stand for “Electric Record Attempt”—is designed to presage a new… Read More →

THE NEXT FEW years may be hard for Willy, my friend and street-motorsport consigliere. When Willy isn’t powering through a heavy-metal set list on his slack-stringed bass guitar, he is obsessing over his 2016 Subaru WRX STI: the Blue Dragon. All are warned not to touch the Blue Dragon. Don’t even look at it. Willy has immanentized his eschaton. He has spent thousands to sort out the Blue Dragon exactly the way he wants it,… Read More →

It’s safe to say that the 2022 Subaru WRX hasn’t exactly had the warm reception Subaru had hoped for. Many have derided the styling and those black plastic fender flares, and the new WRX has strayed further and further from its rally car roots. There’s also the matter of the new 2.4-liter flat-four turbocharged engine, which is only 3 horsepower more powerful than before. It’s that last criticism that YouTube channel SavageGeese set out to… Read More →

Subaru has revealed its all-electric STI E-RA at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon. Yet what on the surface might look like a flight of fancy electric racing car concept, the concept speaks volumes about the brand’s ambitions in motorsport as it continues to grow a global audience. Designed as a ‘near-future’ concept racing car, Subaru has built the project from the foundations of the FIA’s new E-GT racing class that will kick off with a… Read More →

Subaru is kind of unique among automakers. It uses a unique engine design, it employs all-wheel drive more than its rivals, and it doesn’t get involved in trying to keep up with all of the latest trends. However, it has received some flak for releasing an all-new WRX with no more power than the outgoing generation. After some deeper digging, it’s clear that there’s more than meets the eye. Quite a number of YouTubers have… Read More →

There is nothing limited about the 2022 Subaru WRX Limited model that we drove here recently. Subaru redesigned and built an almost entirely new sports car that takes driving to the next level.
