2019 Subaru Ascent First Drive

t’s been almost five years since Subaru had a midsize SUV in its lineup, creating a void for the brand’s loyal customers seeking a three-row family-friendly crossover. 2019 Subaru Ascent first drive review: Finally, a proper 3-row SUV

You might remember the Tribeca, Subaru’s first stab at a three-row crossover SUV. New for the 2006 model year, it stumbled out of the gates with its controversial looks, soldiering on as a slow seller until being axed in 2014. An uncharacteristic one-and-done dud for Subaru, few people lamented the model’s demise. Forget Everything You’ve Heard — Fear Doesn’t Sell

Sixty percent of Subaru owners have dogs. So in 2008, when the company decided to sponsor Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl, it made a major break from previous advertising campaigns — ones that showed drivers with other cars getting stuck in the snow, for example. Alongside a pledge to donate $250 to charity for every car sold, the company began to understand how to appeal to its core audience through their own interests — and how… Read More →

Profit drop in once reliable N.A. drags down Subaru

North America, long the earnings engine for Subaru Corp., turned into a drag on profits amid spiraling incentives due to increased competition in the crossover segment. Japan’s Subaru Corp (7270.T) on Friday forecast a third-straight year of falling operating profit as it expects a stronger yen and increased marketing costs in the United States to offset higher global car sales. Subaru and bigger rivals including Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) and Honda Motor Co Ltd (7267.T) are bracing for a slide in operating profit due to a stronger yen, which can squeeze earnings repatriated from abroad. It also raises costs of exported… Read More →
