Nathalie Richard has her brother to thank for an introduction to the sport of rally racing. The first time the Halifax native climbed into the co-driver’s seat, it was love at first drive. Twenty years and numerous championships later, Richard learned that she would be inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in 2021. “I was thrilled to hear the news,” said the 46-year-old. “I had a successful career, so it is really nice… Read More →

The Subaru Forester has had to make do in America with a single engine since the company discontinued the 250-hp turbocharged flat-four XT model for 2019. And that remaining powerplant is uninspiring, to put it mildly, being a 2.5-liter, naturally aspirated flat-four making 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft. It’s adequate, but no more than that. But in Japan, Subaru is gifting the Forester Sport a new 1.8-liter turbocharged engine that was first utilized in the… Read More →

Stuntman Travis Pastrana stopped by his Maryland hometown on Thursday to jump a rally car over a popular marina as a speed boat streaked underneath. Pastrana, a 37-year-old Annapolis native, took a few tries over Ego Alley in his Team Subaru rally car as he tried to sync up with Miss Geico – the world’s fastest offshore racer, getting speeds of up to 188mph. His greatest concern when executing the stunt was moisture, as Thursday… Read More →

Moments before strapping into his Team Subaru rally car, Travis Pastrana took time to explain some of the potential pitfalls of his plan to jump over Ego Alley in downtown Annapolis. In case you haven’t heard, Ken Block won’t be driving in the next Gymkhana video. Instead, his pal and human Duracell bunny Travis Pastrana is getting behind the wheel for the eleventh instalment of the wildly successful series. Given he’s pretty handy behind the wheel of a rally car, gives it nothing but max wrist on a motorbike, and can seemingly pull the danger fuse in his brain at will, he has the CV for… Read More →

Subaru won’t be back to racking up record U.S. sales for at least two more years. That’s the warning from the global CEO, who predicted here last week that the COVID-19 pandemic will cause Subaru’s U.S. sales to fall 14 percent this year to their lowest level since 2015. Read More →

Petter Solberg was fourth in the championship chase following round 10 of 14 – he’d retired after running out of fuel in Italy a fortnight earlier. And Prodrive’s active dampers had been left at home after that troubled Sanremo outing. And then shakedown was stopped after a significant shunt for Solberg’s Subaru. Significant enough to twist the chassis and cut communications to one Corsican village as the Impreza WRC2003 used a telegraph pole to save… Read More →

I could give you the spiel about my love of the vanlife concept—I’ve wanted to do it since before Instagram was a thing, I’m a camping nerd, I think travel is good for a healthy economy—but I’ll get straight to the point: I don’t think people should build out a vehicle for a price tag that has more than two zeros before the decimal. Instead, like any twentysomething with a low-to-average paycheck, I looked at what I… Read More →

The Gymkhana series is back for an eleventh installment with a new driver but a very familiar marque. Pro racer and Nitro Circus madman Travis Pastrana is taking Gymkhana back to its roots by bringing Subaru back into the series for the first time since 2009’s Gymkhana Two. Just as Ken Block switched to Gymkhana-ing Fords when he switched to racing those, Pastrana has raced Vermont SportsCar-prepped Subarus since 2003. So, it’s not too much… Read More →

Travis Pastrana is stepping into Ken Block’s driver seat for the next installment of the Gymkhana series, and he’s got a uniquely modified Subaru WRX STI to do the job. Subaru worked with Vermont SportsCar to build the car specifically to do exciting things on video, rather than needing to comply with any racing series’ rules. Subaru isn’t offering too many technical details about the Gymkhana WRX STI. The company confirms that it uses a… Read More →
