It’s difficult to emphasize how difficult an off-road video shoot is with three old, Tin-Can 4X4 vehicles. These are old Japanese econobox off-roaders that range in age between 30 to well over 40 years old. They have old tech, old bones and were well used before we got out hands on them. A few days ago we learned that the next-generation Subaru WRX and WRX STI aren’t likely to debut until early spring 2022. The successors to today’s Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 RWD twins are even expected before that. What’s taking Subaru so long? For starters, the WRX and STI are niche models with relatively limited appeal, meaning the priority always goes towards hot-selling vehicles, such as the Forester. But Subaru’s rally racing history is important… Read More →

It would help the Forester get closer to its quicker rivals. We like a lot of things about the tough Subaru Forester, but its performance never really stood out. In a segment featuring several nippy turbocharged competitors, the Forester’s trusty naturally aspirated 2.5-liter flat-four simply couldn’t compete. That hasn’t seemed to bother customers, though, as the Forester has remained a strong seller for the brand. Those sales numbers could get even better as Best Car… Read More →
