Appropriately called XV Hybrid STI Concept, the first show car is a sportier version of the XV Hybrid tuned by STI. Subaru won’t reveal the concept until halfway through next month, but it promises the XV Hybrid benefits from a white paint job with orange accents and a two-tone orange and beige cabin spruced up with sport seats for the front passengers. STI has made comprehensive suspension modifications to improve the ride, but whether the… Read More →

Subaru’s sport-focused STI division has traveled to the Tokyo Auto Salon, an event that can best be described as Japan’s version of SEMA, to introduce two brand new concepts. Called Levorg STI Concept, the first show car is based on the Levorg station wagon that’s sold in a host of global markets including Europe, Australia, and Japan. Visually, the STI-massaged Levorg wears an eye-catching hue called WR blue pearl with red accents all around, and it looks more muscular than the regular-production wagon… Read More →

Subaru is on a tear. It is poised to notch its seventh-straight year of record sales in North America, reaching the company’s sales target five years ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, parent company Fuji Heavy Industries forecasts another fiscal year of across-the-board records: for vehicle sales, revenue, operating profit and net income. When the original Subaru Forester launched in 1998, it was somewhat of a square peg in a round hole. Body-on-frame SUVs ruled the day, with few consumers clamoring for a utility vehicle that was essentially a tall station wagon with all-wheel drive. But the last two decades have shown that the Forester was simply ahead of the curve rather than some oddball idea. Car-based crossovers are now the hottest vehicles in the entire industry, with… Read More →

There aren’t many blues I’d pick over Subaru’s famous “WR Blue Pearl” but this “Hyper Blue” is one of the few. This exterior is exactly how I’d spec out a WRX STI, black wheels, big wing, six-speed, meaty tires for winter. I snagged the keys for a weekend of Christmas shopping and cross city driving; the only thing missing was a thick coat of December snow. Instead we had a few 60-degree spring-like days. Mental… Read More →

The 2016 Subaru WRX is an enthusiast’s car. Its popularity stems from its mixture of affordable pricing (just under US$27,000 to start) and fun factor, with the surprising side note of being daily-use-friendly thanks to four-door construction and a sizeable trunk. These build on the WRX’s much-loved all-wheel drive powertrain and tight gearbox. At the pinnacle of performance for the WRX is the STI (Subaru Tecnica International), which boosts engine output considerably and adds a… Read More →
