When Subaru revealed the next generation Crosstrek, known as the XV in Europe, at the Geneva show, the company only announced the inclusion of a CVT. Fortunately, American Crosstrek buyers will still have the option to operate a clutch and shifter for themselves. It even comes with an extra gear compared with the previous generation, for a total of six cogs. The 6-speed manual will be standard equipment on base and Premium Crosstrek 2.0i models. Read More →

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. has a new, albeit familiar, name. Effective April 1, the maker of Subaru vehicles will be known as Subaru Corp. The move, announced last May, is meant to bolster branding at a company that makes everything from industrial products to helicopters but draws the vast majority of its cash from Subaru vehicles. Even before the launch, I was already impressed with the Forester, especially when its predecessor had a brief tryst with the local media in the outskirts of Pampanga back in 2015. How could one forget its effortless wading through waist-deep Lahar river waters, like it was Pamela Anderson in Baywatch just out on a weekend pleasure (while working) excursion? Read More →

While I was more than happy with the amount of power in the latest Toyota-badged Toyobaru, the 2017 Toyota 86, I realize that its continued existence relies on the approval of the masses who aren’t me. Those masses would really appreciate it if Subaru’s STi branch slapped a turbo on that lil’ 205 horsepower flat-four. If you like the Toyobaru twins at all, you should probably join in the calls for the same thing. Read More →

Subaru has been known to take existing products, raise them, and market them as new models. The compact Crosstrek is a perfect example and has been popular since its debut for the 2012 model year. But up until now, the Impreza-based model has soldiered on without a significant redesign. With the release of the all-new Impreza, it was only a matter of time Subaru would reveal the new Crosstrek, underpinned by the all-new Subaru Global… Read More →

The crossover destined to be Subaru’s largest vehicle when it joins the lineup late this year or early next year. With three rows of seating and exterior dimensions similar to those of the Honda Pilot, the Ford Explorer, and other family haulers, the Ascent is the spiritual—and far less bizarre—successor to the Tribeca that you forgot Subaru sold from 2006 to 2014. The 2018 Subaru Ascent is set to enter the market before the end of 2017; but beyond that, the new vehicle seems to have a lot in common with Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer. It is now evident from confirmed photos that it is a three-row job and would be great for family vacations and hauling stuffs around. That is however not all; the Subaru Ascent seems to be a replacement for the Tribeca which… Read More →
