Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd, the maker of Subaru cars, plans to invest $400 million to expand production capacity at its sole U.S. plant in Indiana by around 100,000 vehicles, the Japanese automaker said on Wednesday. A new rumour has sparked hope of a Subaru WRX STI being brought back as the company’s high-performance model. It may be common knowledge amongst car enthusiasts, but the layperson would likely be quite surprised to learn that four-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive aren’t the same thing. Elections have consequences — including for the product plans of midsize Japanese automakers. Subaru is slowly working on a redesign of its three-row Ascent crossover, but the brand’s largest vehicle will be replaced by the three-row electric vehicle being built in Kentucky by Toyota if regulations tightening emissions remain in place.
