The Subaru Outback has always been the most luxurious car that the company has manufactured. In the early 2000s, the Outback had an LL Bean trim, which was basically a fancy rustic cabin on wheels. It was always engineered to ride smoothly while maintaining Subaru’s legendary AWD capabilities, at an attainable price. For decades, the Outback was Subaru’s best seller, until the Crosstrek came along, anyway. Even for 2025, the Subaru’s still one of my… Read More →

It was, according to Kris Meeke, as though somebody had thrown a duvet across the windshield of his DS3 WRC. The analogy was slightly strange, but it did the job. He was blinded by the dust. Admittedly, circumstances at that Rally Australia a decade ago were compounded by the second pass of the Valla stage running in the darkness, but it was the dust that had Meeke and Sébastien Ogier so angry. All Japanese car brands importing cars into the United States are feeling the effects of President Trump’s tariffs, but of them all, Subaru is the most exposed. To lessen the blow of the tariffs, the new Forester needs to prove popular. Up until May, Subaru had managed to move 84,629 Foresters in America, showing a modest 3.9% increase over the same period in 2024. This places the Forester firmly at the top of Subaru’s sales… Read More →

It’s true that Subaru’s lineup was hybrid-free in 2024, but that allowed the company to finish development on the new hybrid powertrain for the also-new 2025 Subaru Forester. And it’s a good thing, too, since Americans can’t get enough of hybrid cars nowadays. The Forester debuted earlier this year, and it’s doing much more than just keeping up with the Joneses. Subaru supports its active branding with a hybrid setup that’s specifically engineered to work without any… Read More →

Whether they’re from Silicon Valley or the Motor City, companies around the world are trying to make truly autonomous cars a reality. Most of those companies are attempting this from the car side of things. The car handles everything: it has sensors to read the road, and on-board computers to process what’s happening and to control the vehicle as needed. The advantage of this technique is that the cars can, hypothetically, operate on any road,… Read More →

I shouldn’t like the Subaru Crosstrek. I’ve always gravitated towards driver-focused and performance cars — vehicles developed with the idea of setting a track record or being a split personality that can be fun on a backroad but also comfortable for a commute. That’s what I always thought was cool, and it’s why I own a 2023 Civic Type R now and previously had Miatas, a Lotus Esprit, and a 2003 330i ZHP. But a… Read More →

The 103rd Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is evidence that racing has no limits when it comes to age. The competitors taking on the mountain this year include nine drivers between 62 and 77 years old. And while age brings its usual challenges, it has not been a limiting factor for several. “The benefit of my age is I’m retired so I have plenty of time to do this nonsense,” Rick Lind, 64, said.… Read More →
