HOOPER WINS RALLY USA TEST EVENT

Chattanooga driver Michael Hooper won Saturday’s Tennessee Rally USA test event for a proposed World Rally Championship round. Hooper was one of four finishers for the shortened event, with his Lexus taking victory from Corey McKenzie’s Nissan Sentra. Former Sno*Drift winner Mark Piatkowski built an early advantage in his Subaru before retiring on the sixth of eight stages. He was one of five retirements. Hooper admitted it was miracle he made the finish after a… Read More →

World’s Largest Subaru Meet Proves Diversity Is More than a Marketing Message

Every car meet has its own vibe. Some focus on horsepower, some put more of a priority on hooliganism. Some crowds embrace cars that have seen some things, obsessing over original patina and the odors of a vintage interior, while other events take place within a veritable cloud of citrus-scented quick detailer. What was the vibe at this year’s Wicked Big Meet, the world’s largest Subaru gathering, located in Stafford Springs, Connecticut? It was all… Read More →

2024 Subaru WRX stickshift showdown: Limited vs TR

The past decade has seen the accelerating demise of affordable fun cars, so when a mainstream manufacturer says it’s going to expand its stable of performance models — even when it’s something as simple as a new trim like the 2024 Subaru WRX TR — we stand up and take notice. From where we sit, it looks like Subaru is still trying to figure out exactly where the WRX stands in this shrinking field of… Read More →

WHAT’S MORE INTIMIDATING THAN ONE SOLBERG?

Hayden Paddon finished second to one Solberg at last year’s Royal Rally of Scandinavia – this year he faces two of them as Petter joins his son Oliver on the start list for Sweden’s round of the European Rally Championship this week. Predictably, the intra-family fight has grabbed the headlines in Karlstad and Paddon’s well aware of the potential threat from the house of Solberg – but he’s looking more at the longer game of… Read More →

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Has New Software. We Won’t Be Using One of the Bigger Changes.

Over-the-air updates aren’t exactly new for Subaru owners. The company has been pushing OTA software changes since before the turn of this decade. But as our long-term review Subaru Crosstrek’s chaperone—and as a former “youth” Reynolds wrote about a decade ago—I was nonetheless taken by surprise one day in April when a notification flashed across the screen. “The software update is ready,” it told me. “Would you like to install it now?” As a journalist,… Read More →

Brandon Semenuk had pulled away at the front on Friday and while team-mate Travis Pastrana briefly began to eat into the reigning champion’s lead on Saturday morning, Semenuk clinched the win with a storming drive on the powerstage. His only drama on the… Read More →

SEMENUK PULLS AWAY FROM PASTRANA IN OHIO LEAD BATTLE

Friday was the longest day of action at Southern Ohio Forest Rally. Reigning champion Brandon Semenuk made it feel short, winning every stage to lead his Subaru team-mate Travis Pastrana by one minute and 28.6 seconds. It wasn’t an entirely straightforward day for the reigning world champion. His WRX suffered a water temperature issue on stage four after ingesting too much grass from cutting corners, also shattering his windscreen in the process. Read More →

THE CONSEQUENCES OF SENDING IT SLIGHTLY TOO HARD

Southern Ohio Forest Rally’s signature stage is one of the shortest in the world of rallying. At 0.97 miles, the Yoctangee Park test could be misinterpreted as a Mickey Mouse itinerary filler, unbefitting of what follows. But the end of this stage is not child’s play. The final stretch leading up to the finish line features one of the biggest jumps in American rallying. It’s a chance to be a hero and capture the spotlight.… Read More →
