Subaru’s Rally Racing Program Connects With Fans – And Informs The Wickedly Fun WRX GT

One of the oldest sayings in motorsport – and vehicles sales – is “Race on Sunday, sell on Monday.” Another spin on this bon mot is “Win on Sunday, sell on Monday.” For many carmakers (and motorcycle makers and snowmobile makers and boat makers and you get the idea) it’s enough to be out in the mix and competing, but to actually be out there and winning is all that much better. And much more… Read More →

Will Subaru Bring Back the BRAT or Baja? It Should. Here’s Why

The past couple of years have seen the small pickup truck revived. Manufacturers weren’t even sure about mid-size trucks until a few years ago, but now, we have trucks that are unabashedly compact and crossover-based. Ford launched its all-new, Built Ford Tough Maverick; Hyundai, in turn, debuted the all-new Santa Cruz, which they insist is not a truck but a “sport adventure vehicle.” Read More →

2024 Subaru Crosstrek Review: Making a Great Crossover Even Better

Subaru has long been a bit of an off-beat carmaker. Peer into its past, and you’ll find all sorts of wacky, think-outside-the-box vehicles: the Brat, the Baja, the SVX, the B9 Tribeca. For the last few decades, though, here in America, it’s been largely defined by what might be called the Stereotypical Subaru: an all-wheel-drive, body-cladded and lifted car designed to offer much of what people like in a sport-utility vehicle (off-road /all-weather capability, specifically)… Read More →

Subaru BRZ: One year in review

Once plentiful, the affordable sports car is now an endangered species. If you’re of a certain age, you’ve seen this movie before: in the 1970s, there were all sorts of fun and interesting machines from the 240Z to the MGB, and then they just sort of died out in an explosion of bigger, more luxurious offerings. Electrification doesn’t mean an end to performance, but it does mean bigger, heavier, and more expensive. Figuring it was… Read More →

How a breakthrough Safari win established a future WRC champion

“Richard Burns crossed the final flying finish line, punched the air and shouted something so obscene that the BBC won’t be able to show the moment!” That was how Autosport’s rally reporter Keith Oswin described Burns’ first win of what would become a glittering but unfortunately short World Rally Championship career on the 1998 Safari Rally. In recent years, this clip of Burns and Robert Reid crossing the finish line has resurfaced, becoming a social… Read More →
