Subaru has been known for its ability to listen to what the consumers had to say since it started shipping cars to the American markets in 1968. It is a common misconception that the company hit the ground running, taking off from day one as a very successful carmaker. That was not the case, though, because, like most other manufacturers in the industry, they had some ups and downs. One of those ups came in… Read More →

Subaru is open to a return to the Australian Rally Championship, despite stepping away from the sport when its production-based WRX proved uncompetitive for outright victories. Speaking to Torquecafe at the launch of the new Crosstrek small SUV, Subaru Australia managing director, Blair Read, said that the sport remains a vital part of the brand’s image even as its involvement has waned. The Japanese brand hasn’t been involved in the top-level of the sport since… Read More →

Two-time champion Marcus Grönholm led the field out of the town of Varzi and into the surrounding hills for a Friday evening loosener ahead of a full day’s sport on Saturday. The Finn wound back the years beautifully, with a fine run through the first stage to take eight seconds out of everybody in just six kilometres. Sadly for him and his now FIA sporting delegate co-driver Timo Rautiainen, they went off the road at… Read More →

Rhianon Gelsomino is perhaps Australia’s most under-rated motorsport exports. While there’s (justifiable) excitement around the likes of Oscar Piastri and Scott McLaughlin, Gelsomino has become a multiple rally champion and worked with some of the biggest names in the business. While some will remember her as successfully co-driving for her brother, Brendan Reeves, in the Australian scene, she has been based in the USA since 2012. While she has competed around the world the highlight… Read More →

Fans, world champions, magicians and musicians combined to make the inaugural Logiman Mythical Cars Rally an extraordinary success across the past two days. Lombardy and the town of Varzi have rocked to the beat of both the best music from the past three decades and the best rally cars anywhere in the world. Despite the plethora of superstars from the World Rally Championship in some awesome cars, the event was won by Frenchman Patrick Magnou… Read More →

Hero to zero is too strong for a two-time world champion. But Marcus Grönholm wouldn’t argue with the sentiment at the end of the opening night’s Logiman Mythical Cars Rally action. The Finn rocketed into an 8.1-second lead before going off the road on a tightening right-hander after the finish. The Subaru Impreza WRC rolled down a bank and briefly caught fire. Grönholm explained the incident to DirtFish saying: “Everything was nice, the feeling was… Read More →

Not since Sébastien Loeb have we seen such a gymnastics-based approach to pre-stage preparations. Lia Block’s feet replaced her hands on the floor and, right way up again, she pulled on her crash helmet, started the Subaru BRZ and stopped the world of rallying in its tracks. The 16-year-old is making a habit of doing that. Her speed at last week’s Oregon Trail Rally was one of the best things to happen to American rallying… Read More →

The Subaru Crosstrek has long been a practical and appealing choice among subcompact SUVs thanks to its spacious cabin, standard all-wheel drive and solid all-around value. Redesigned for 2024, the Crosstrek thankfully keeps all of that and gains additional appeal; it also remains a roomy and versatile choice that’s ready for outdoor adventures and affordably priced. This weekend, Marcus Grönholm will be reunited with an old friend when he starts the Logiman Mythical Cars Rally. Nope, not his championship-winning Peugeot 206 WRC. Nor the Ford Focus RS WRC that he ended his full-time career with. And it certainly isn’t Peugeot’s 307 WRC. That would be a foe, not a friend! Instead, Grönholm and long-term co-driver, and brother-in-law, Timo Rautiainen will compete in a car wearing the badge of one of their… Read More →
