Spy video published last month provided our first look at the next-generation 2023 Subaru XV, the third iteration of one of the brand’s best-selling models in Australia. While the XV prototype was clothed in a relatively thin layer of disguise – cutting a shape through the air not dissimilar to its predecessor – we tasked Drive’s resident Photoshop guru Theophilus Chin with stripping off the camouflage, a year ahead of the Subaru’s scheduled unveiling. In… Read More →

Scott Speed emerged as top qualifier at the Nitro Rallycross season finale at The Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park following a post-race penalty for Timmy Hansen. Hansen won the Battle Bracket final ahead of Speed, passing him late on the track’s final asphalt section, making heavy contact with the Subaru driver in the process. The move, which resulted in the front bumper of Hansen’s Peugeot completely detaching, was judged to have featured all four… Read More →

It’s not often we have two of the same type of vehicle during the same week. It was just happenstance that we got either one of these great coupe offerings, and to get them during the same week must have had something to do with good karma. Regardless, it provided us the opportunity to really compare the two without having to think back a few months about what we liked or didn’t like about one… Read More →

It’s 1.6 miles and a cloud of dust. The semiconductor chip shortage has made 2021 difficult for the entire automotive industry, but some carmakers are suffering standout bad years. One of them is Subaru, which is on a trajectory to record its first back-to-back years of sales decline in the United States since 1995. Subaru CEO Tomomi Nakamura told Automotive News that while the company’s sales through October haven’t been in a bad spot, with 499,619 cars sold, it’s not quite the pace… Read More →

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ll know that Brandon Semenuk is now a professional rally car driver for Subaru. Don’t worry, he’s not hanging up his bike helmet, this is just another evolution of the legend himself. We’ve gotten pretty used to watching his crispy 100-second edits on a bike, so his latest creation really fits the mold. This time, instead of performing all kinds of mind-bending maneuvers on… Read More →

A couple of months back, Subaru revealed the all-new 2022 WRX, and although the design of the car has not gone down well with everyone, the new sedan looks like it’ll be a hit. It gets a new 2.4-liter boxer four that is turbocharged to produce 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which can be harnessed with your choice of either a six-speed manual or the Subaru Performance Transmission, an automatic unit. It’s not… Read More →

On the surface, it may not make a lot of sense to compare, for a few reasons. The BRZ is rear-wheel drive, the GTI front-drive. The Subie runs a 228-hp, 2.4-liter naturally aspirated horizontally opposed engine tht keeps the car’s center of gravity low, the VW a more traditional (i.e., tall) 241-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 transversely mounted in the bay. The BRZ is a svelte two-door sports coupe, the GTI a five-door hatchback that’s longer,… Read More →
