Subaru Outback Too Expensive for You? Try a Crosstrek

The Subaru Outback is one of our favorite cars. Subie’s OG crossover/off-road station wagon is spacious and practical; it’s safe, handles well, and is ready for the worst weather conditions, thanks to Subaru’s outstanding all-wheel-drive system. It meets just about every need (except the one for speed). Indeed, it may be the best all-around family car on the market. Read More →

What made the Subaru Impreza WRX 22B so iconic

The Subaru Impreza peaked early. The nameplate enjoys a 28-year heritage, but reached its zenith a mere six years into its life cycle with the iconic WRX STi 22B. Subaru has built quicker models since but none has ever been so perfectly redolent of a moment as this slice of box-arch exotica. A celebration of the company’s third rally world championship in a row, the 22B was, by any conventional product planning logic, a bit… Read More →

5 things I learned driving the 2020 Subaru Forester — through a farmer’s back 40

I recently had a refresher course in all things Subaru. And, just like their cars, the company does things a little different. So, instead of driving my 2020 Forester on some nice and dry, twisty roads in a completely controlled, almost hermetic experience, I spent the day beating it along some woody trails that would challenge a true SUV. This is what I found out. Read More… Read More →

2019 Subaru Forester Review

When it arrives this fall, the new Subaru Forester will be the best compact crossover on the market you can get. The familiar styling and other low-key specs hide the Foresters true form as one of the best products that Subaru or any of its competitors has put out in quite some time. It’s a culmination of a number of factors: a brand new 2.5-liter engine finds its home, a new transmission, new driving modes,… Read More →

On National Drive-Thru Day, the Subaru Ascent Is Cupholder King

The all-new 2019 Subaru Ascent is a solid return for the brand to the three-row SUV class. In addition to familiar styling that still adheres to the automaker’s design language found in its popular smaller SUVs/wagons, the Ascent upholds Subaru’s time-honored tradition of safety, practicality and affordability. Its interior quality stands out, its noise-canceling abilities are at luxury-class levels, and its standard all-wheel drive and EyeSight safety suite make it a competitive entrant to an… Read More →

I was totally wrong about the Subaru WRX STI Type RA

Fifteen hours of travel and a vaguely nauseating drive to 6,600 feet in elevation came down to three seconds of action: Rally master Mark Higgins burst through dense Romanian fog in Subaru’s purpose-built STI time-attack racer, howled past our vantage point and … vanished again into another fog bank. Thanks to murky weather, it was an anticlimactic glimpse of an otherwise remarkable attempt: Subaru managed to grease enough government palms to shut down 84 kilometers… Read More →

Gallery: The best bits of the rally stage

Whether you choose to get carted up there behind a bumbling tractor, or bravely speed-marched up the tinderbox-hot hillside by foot, the Goodwood Festival of Speed Forest Rally Stage provided a welcome and, in parts, shady reward. Read More →

Subaru EyeSight Father Returns in Stereo Vision

ITD Lab, a 20-person startup based here, is pitching “Intelligent Stereo Camera (ISC)” technology for applications ranging from ADAS, autonomous vehicles, and drones to construction machines and industrial robots. ITD Lab’s secret weapon is CTO Keiji Saneyoshi, a father of Subaru’s EyeSight. Saneyoshi was the principal engineer behind Subaru’s original stereo vision system, “Stereo Range Imager.” Saneyoshi’s team at Subaru then developed the first driver-assist system to use only stereo cameras to detect objects such… Read More →

2019 Subaru Ascent First Drive

t’s been almost five years since Subaru had a midsize SUV in its lineup, creating a void for the brand’s loyal customers seeking a three-row family-friendly crossover. That’s all changed with the introduction of the new 2019 Subaru Ascent, which goes on sale this summer. The Ascent is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) sends power to all four… Read More →

Subaru Forester Is First Mainstream Model To Offer Facial Recognition Technology

The all-new Subaru Forester knows who you are. As the first mainstream model to employ facial recognition technology, the Forester cannot only detect driver fatigue but can distinguish between drivers and automatically adjust the seat and mirrors. And this device won’t break the bank. Other models like the Lexus LC that offer this device start at over $70,000 whereas the Forester has priced it at under $40,000. Recently revealed at the New York International Auto… Read More →
