The timing was less than ideal. I started off from the heart of California wine country at around 10 am. The plan was to take California’s Route 1—the unmatched route that lines the California coast like a car-topped levee—all the way down to Los Angeles. By the time I got past Monterey, the sun was almost touching the Pacific.
Before heading south from Healdsburg, I spent a day getting acquainted with the fifth-generation Subaru WRX in a slightly lesser-equipped example. Seen above is a Premium-trim model, and the one used for the coastal drive down was a Limited, which you can tell by the slightly different headlights.
