For a married couple, the traditional five-year wedding anniversary gift is something wooden. Hence, Velocity Invitational, the historic and supercar gathering at Sonoma Raceway, should have featured… woodies!
Opportunity missed? Maybe not. They had more than enough cool cars, both old and new, to make the weekend interesting, as well as a paddock full of wine and culinary delights to keep attendees happy and well fed.
“There were a lot of really expensive cars that were getting a lot of attention,” said former F1 racer Scott Speed, who drove several cars over the course of the weekend—and won the hill climb at the Invitational. “But it’s cool that some old NASCARs were out there. I think it’s cool when you can just bring people who like motor racing and cars all together in one spot.”
