GREG CARLOSS: We’re heading off to the wilderness again, this time in the new 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness. And while Outback and Wilderness may seem to be redundant, that’s how marketing jargon plays these days.
This seventh-gen Outback just hit the streets a few months ago, now looking more like a true SUV than ever. Enough so that it’s our MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Best Midsize Utility for 2026. Now we’re back from California with an exclusive First Drive in the tricked-out Wilderness version which, despite a spec sheet that’s mostly the same as last year, is indeed the most capable Outback Wilderness yet.
