2023 Subaru Solterra arrives in US with standard AWD and 220-mile estimated range

The Subaru Solterra is the brand’s first fully electric vehicle and a joint venture between Toyota, who sells this same EV has the BZ4X. (Super glad Subaru went with an actual word, even if it’s made up.) The Solterra made its official debut in Japan last week, but Subaru pulled the wraps off the North American version on Wednesday, confirming many of the EV’s US specs.

Mechanically speaking, not much is different between the Solterra and its Toyota-badged cousin. Subaru said it was responsible for the tuning of the all-wheel-drive system, which will be standard on US-spec Solterras. In other countries, the Solterra will be available with a single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration that we won’t get in the US.
