Subaru has been on a tear lately, quickly escalating the EV side of its SUV lineup with the Trailseeker and Uncharted joining the Solterra on dealer lots this year. Next up is a three-row family SUV called Getaway, unveiled at the 2026 New York auto show.
The Getaway shares its platform—and much of its styling and interior design—with the recently unveiled Toyota Highlander EV. But while the Toyota is offered in both single- and dual-motor setups, the Subaru comes only with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive arrangement. The Getaway’s 420 horsepower also tops the AWD Highlander EV’s 338 ponies.
From some angles, the Getaway looks identical to the Highlander EV, especially in profile. The two SUVs share sheetmetal and most exterior details, but the Subaru wears a unique front fascia with a light-up logo set into its flat front end. The Getaway has unique headlamps, a ladder-type roof rack, and an illuminated SUBARU script that bisects what would otherwise be a continuous lightbar across the rear liftgate.
