You’d think with the debut of the “carbon neutral era” at Subaru, the automaker would be chomping at the bit to bring you news about products to follow up its new Solterra EV SUV, or at least new variants—say, maybe a sporty STI model. Instead, if you blinked, you would have missed the fact that one such Solterra debuted during the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon.
As Subaru begins its EV future with the Solterra, it’s entirely reasonable to ponder the possibility of an STI version. After all, there are STI versions of mainstream Subarus sold globally; here in America, we get only the WRX STI sedan. Anyway, STI’s display during the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon fanned the flames when it displayed a Solterra STI Concept, albeit without many details.
