JRM Racing has signed leading Prodrive engineer Paul Eastman to lead its advanced engineering department as it works towards a Mini World Rallycross programme. In his previous role as head of rally engineering at Prodrive, Eastman was a key player in the design and engineering development of Prodrive’s Mini World Rally Car, which made its debut in 2011. There are a lot of iconic engines out there, and while it may not be as sexy as a small-block Chevy or Lamborghini V12, the Subaru boxer is definitely one of them. Subaru has been making boxer engines in one form or another since 1966, and it recently hit a major milestone. The new 2015 Subaru Outback wagon is the hottest car in the brands lineup and now it’s launching in Europe. The new-generation SUV-alternative Outback is flying off dealer lots in North America and supply is extremely limited. Fuji Heavy Industries is manufacturing the cars at the Indiana plant in the U.S. and capacity won’t be increased until 2016. The yen’s decline in recent years has been a big boon for Japanese exporters, especially Fuji Heavy Industries , best known as the maker of Subaru cars. Subaru’s plucky line of four-wheel drive cars has been racking up impressive sales numbers against bigger, more formidable competitors. A weaker yen allows Fuji and other Japanese exporters to cut prices because costs are denominated in relatively cheap yen, while revenue is realized in U.S. dollars and other strong currencies. China’s return to the World Rally Championship next season is a priority for the series, according to organiser WRC Promoter.
