Subaru could probably buy out Toyota if it got a nickel every time it heard “put a turbo in the BRZ!” The brand has finally done it. The Subaru Boxer Rally Spec.Z is a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive BRZ that boasts more power than the current WRX. There’s a big catch, however: You need to be a factory pilot to drive it.
Unveiled in Japan, the Boxer Rally Spec.Z was developed to compete in the JN-1 category of the 2026 All Japan Rally Championship. It’s recognizable as an evolution of the BRZ, but it stands out with a long list of modifications, including a new front bumper with a gaping air intake, vents cut into the hood, and a widebody kit. The back end gets a huge, STI-developed wing that’s offered as an accessory in some markets.
